This collection consists of Fogle family papers and business records related to the D. Fogle Mercantile Company. It includes correspondence, ledgers, biographical sketches of various family members, scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, and similar materials. The business and other records are from when the family lived in Pennsylvania and after they moved to Franklin County, Kan. The majority of the records date from after the move. They provide information about the financial situation of the company. Included is information about customers such as what they bought and what they owed. The bulk of the collection consists of the business records, and most of these records date from the 1870s. Son William Cornelius (W.C.) Fogle took charge of the company at a later date. The collection also includes typed transcripts of letters sent by Fogle to his wife on his first western trip in 1867 as he looked for a place to settle his family. Correspondents include William Schofield, town platter and promoter for Williamsburg, Kan., where Daniel Fogle brought his family in 1868 or 1869.
